Well being for you and the planet

A look at well being for you and the planet at the same time. Looking yourself is great, but it is even better when you can do it and look after the planet at the same time. Here are a few of our favourite tips for looking after you and the planet.

Garden Time

Gardening and nature have long been known to help our mental and physical health. One of the many reasons it is so important to look after our wonderful planet. So look after yourself while looking after your part of the planet.

Plant flowers that the bees, butterflies and other creatures will love, like geranium and wildflowers. Allow your borders to grow a little wild to allow small creatures a place to hide and hunt (hedgehogs love a bit of undergrowth.) This allows you to enjoy your garden and help the planet.

Enjoying Nature

If you don’t have a garden try Forest Bathing. Or just take a walk in your favourite part of nature. Whether that is the coast, the countryside, or the mountains. If you don’t want to walk you can sit or do yoga, or mountain climb if you are feeling very energetic. You can also help charities with their work. A lot of nature charities need help mapping nature. For example the RSPB have pages to help map birds that need our help, such as the Swift. Or the Bumblebee conservation trust often need volunteers to help.

Eco Bathing

This doesn’t mean bathing in the outdoors, or with the lights off. But just making a few swaps so you can enjoy a relaxing while keeping the planet happy.

Though, long summer days at the moment mean you can have a bath and not need the lights on. And a day time bath or shower can feel more luxury than the standard pre bed bath.

We are used to reading a list of chemicals on the back of all our body care products and used to them arriving covered in plastic, but there are now some brilliant alternatives. From bar shampoo to shower bars (for the body). Try using products with less chemicals through out your whole beauty regime. And instead of plastic bath puffs and sponges, swap to an eco version.

Konjac sponges are a great (Vegan) swap from sea sponges or plastic sponges. Or use compostable products such as bamboo shower mitts made in Cornwall. These can be washed in the machine. And then cut up and composted when you are finished with it.
