Why Vintage?

While looking around for ethical clothes and where to buy them I started looking at Vintage. With re-using being one of the most important examples of sustainability, vintage is not only cool it is sustainable. We spoke to the wonderful Tassie, owner of Chiffe, about why she wanted to start her own online store. Tassies Chiffe Studio opened its virtual doors earlier this month. Here is what Tassie had to say about why she choose vintage… Read more

Ethical Insurance – Pay Your Insurance & Give to Charity

Let’s be honest, insurance probably isn’t the most interesting part of your life. But it is an important part of ‘adulting’ especially if you have a car, home or business. Evergreen Insurance Services is an Insurance firm with a difference. It gives back, with each purchase of insurance from EIS between 15% and 25% of their commission to one of their selected charities. Including our charity partner BBCT Bumblebee Conservation Trust (Charity No 1115634). Read more

Grasmere Gingerbread

Recently I got very excited when I got a box through the post. In the box was a lovely selection from Grasmere Gingerbread. Grasmere gingerbread reminds me of summer holidays as a child. Of a queuing down the street, waiting for your turn to go into a warm, beautifully scented old bakery. What you are met with (as well as the scrumptious scent) are rows of gingerbread. And the smiling faces of the people making and selling it. It is not just tourists who queue for this sweet treat, but locals too and sometimes celebrities. Grasmere gingerbread is unique. It is hard to find the words to describe it, so we asked the lovely people of Grasmere Gingerbread to tell us about it and why it is so special. Read more

In Conversation with a Stay at Home Mum.

Over the months we have looked at various ways people live there lives. Food Writers, professional bloggers, designers and makers. One of the (many) roles we are missing is Stay-At-Home Mums. They are heroes. It is a seven days a week, 24 hours a day role. It is not something that is always possible, either because of financial restraints or because it doesn’t suit the person. (Just to be clear, we think working mums and people without children are amazing too. But today we are concentrating with Stay-at-Home-Mums). It is a wonderful way to spend your days, but can also be hard.

Home of Juniper spoke to the lovely Jessica from @homeisacottage on why she decided to be a stay at home mum, and the ups-and-downs of being one. Read more

In Conversation With a Blogger – Elle Blonde

Technology is increasing the variety of jobs available for people. Something that we see as very positive, even if it does sometimes mean explaining what a Social Media Expert or a Professional Blogger is to our parents. Speaking to bloggers you find out that this is a job that is harder than it sounds. However, it is a job that often comes from love. A love of writing, a love of creativity, a love of sharing (and sometimes accidentally over-sharing). It is a job that usually starts as a hobby and turns into a job. It has a lot of positive points- it is creative, you get to manage your own time … But it can also be very hard to make money blogging. We have spoken to the lovely Laura Dawson about what it is like to blog professionally.

Nature Inspiration – Ceramics

Ceramics are something that often crosses the divide between useful and beautiful. This is definitely true of Lynn’s elegant pieces. All are hand thrown and hand painted in her home studio. These piece’s are all microwave and dishwasher safe. They also look lovely on display, as shown by some of the images we have been sent by happy purchasers. The fact they are handmade means that each piece is unique and special. We spoke to Lynn about how she makes these gorgeous jugs, mugs, and bowls; and where she gets her inspiration from. Here is what she had to say:
