Ethical Insurance – Pay Your Insurance & Give to Charity

Let’s be honest, insurance probably isn’t the most interesting part of your life. But it is an important part of ‘adulting’ especially if you have a car, home or business. Evergreen Insurance Services is an Insurance firm with a difference. It gives back, with each purchase of insurance from EIS between 15% and 25% of their commission to one of their selected charities. Including our charity partner BBCT Bumblebee Conservation Trust (Charity No 1115634).

We were lucky enough to catch up with the company founder, Dave Gardiner And find out a little more about the Evergreen Insurance Services:

Can you tell us a little bit about when and how Evergreen Insurance Services started?

I have a lifelong passion for animals, nature and wildlife, having worked in the insurance industry for over 20 years I wanted to find a way to help support our natural world through the purchase of insurance, which everyone needs. I was fortunate to meet two gentleman who run their own insurance brokers and once I had told them about the concept of Evergreen they have very kindly funded me to create the business.  I embarked on the development journey in January 2017 and by March of the same year I was launching Evergreen at an event attended by a number of charities, insurers and press – then went live to the public on 3rd April 2017.

Insurance isn’t usually linked with ethical ideals, why did you decide to create an ethically linked business?

Due to my love for animals and nature – the financial services industry has a reputation for being greedy and I wanted to do something different.  Evergreen is a business so we have to make money however I didn’t want to be greedy about it.  Our natural world and the beautiful creatures we share the planet with need our help for survival, we have destroyed many of their habitats and some species are on the brink of extinction.  If I can make donations back to support projects to protect them, through the arrangement of products people need anyway then it has to be a win win.

Which charities do you work with? And how long have you been working with them?

I work with a number of nature and wildlife charities and have been since Evergreen was born, they include: Animal Aid, Buglife, Bumblebee Conservation, Butterfly Conservation, BTO, Cuan Wildlife Rescue, David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation, Dorset Wildlife Trust, Lion Aid, League Against Cruel Sport, Mammal Society, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, Sussex Wildlife Trust, Viva

What other companies do you work with?

I have partnership relationships with Allen & York recruitment company, Compass environmental consultancy, Ethical Hedonist Magazine, Greenwings wildlife holidays, HF holidays, Large Minority Travel Company, Upcycle Hour. Everyone I partner with has a shared ethos for our environment and natural world.

What Services do you offer your clients?

We provide insurance services for personal and commercial insurance – including: home, motor, travel, life, pet, specialist vehicle and on the commercial side liabilities, property, commercial combined, motor fleet, social enterprises, charities and anything in between!

What is next for Evergreen Insurance Services? Is there anything new for 2018 you can tell us about?

We are working on several projects for 2018 which are in their infancy at the moment but the hope is to build the business further and help our customers with their insurance needs and donate back to support vital projects. For every policy arranged through Evergreen I make a donation to charity from the commission we earn from the insurer, in the first year of the policy being with us I give 10%, in the second year 15% and in the third year and for the lifetime of the policy being with us I give 25% .  We have helped our partners with their projects in 2017 and want this to grow for 2018 and onwards.

We love it when we find something that we need, mixed with ethical ideals, especially when it is something unexpected.
