Shop Independent Day – 25th June
The 25th June is the day for #CampaignShopIndependent you can find out more on the wonderful Holly Tucker’s social media. Holly has spent years campaigning the support and importance of small businesses. If you recognise her name and don’t know where from, she is one of the creators of Not On The High Street.
If you want to get involved today, or any other day of the year, here are a few ways you can.
Supporting Without Spending
There are so many wonderful small businesses out there and it is impossible to support them all (we have this issue when choosing makers we want to stock… it is hard to choose from all the wonderful makers and designers out there). But even if you can’t afford to buy from a small business, or don’t need anything from them at this moment in time, there are some things you can do to support them:
- Tell your friends and family about them.
- Share something of theirs on your social media and tell your followers why you love them or their products.
- Like, save or comment on a post they have shared (this will help them with the algorithm, meaning their post will get seen by more people).
- Tell them why you love what they do… many small businesses are run by small or single teams, a little bit of positivity can go a long way.
Supporting With Spending
Small businesses can run on very small margins and every purchase really does help. Not just the small business you buy from, but the local community and the people they buy from too. Each purchase helps support the shop you buy from, the makers they buy from and an array of people they use (including local accountants, post offices, packaging companies and more.) This keeps more money in the economy. And it means small business owners get to do their happy dance, which is always a lovely way to start the day.
