Modern Rustic – Trend 2017
How to get Modern Rustic
Modern Rustic is a little bit of a oxymoron. That is maybe why other names for this trend are being used. The main feature of this trend is the ability to blend aspects of contemporary style with features of a traditional British country home. Using simple designs and neutral colours you can create an environment that it is both modern and homely.
Colour and Material
Colour is one of the most important parts of this trend. The colours used are timeless. White, greys and browns; natural tones that can be used and mixed to wonderful effect. With the range of paint companies currently available, there is an almost limitless range of colours to be used.
With a neutral base colour on the walls, further neutrals can be layered on top through soft furnishings, accessories and furniture. A blend of textures can make a room both individual and interesting.
Natural materials are what take this trend beyond colour. Wood, marble, wool and linens add texture and warmth to a room. Colours and materials inspired by nature that create a home that is comforting and warm but with the calm of the outdoors. The outdoor connection of this trend is based on a simple idea of the calming affect being outdoor can have.
Keeping it Simple
Clean lines keep a room simple, with a modern feel. Plain, simple cuts without pattern suit the room. Grain in wood and textures in fabrics add to the room, rather than pattern. Simple shaped furniture and clean cut lines give a modern feel that is toned down by the colours and materials used. Making this a wonderful trend to follow in modern and old-fashioned style buildings.
To make this trend work, keep it simple. There are plenty of ways to make it your own with choice of tones and materials without needing to overdo it. Adding a plant can add a bit of colour in an understated way which still holds true to the overall natural feel of the trend,
As nature is a important aspect of this look, buying ethically and sustainably seems an obvious choice. This can mean buying second hand, sustainably sourced materials or eco-materials. Wool is sustainably sourced and eco-friendly as it rots quickly and completely, similar with ethically sourced cotton and linen. All materials which are great for blankets, throws, wall hangings, curtains or table
On a Budget or in a rented property you cant make permanent changes to. Try adding neutral toned throws and cushions to a sofa or bed. White marble and wood accessories can also be added to a living space, such as this fair-trade white marble tea light holder (£8.95 at homeofjuniper.co.uk).
The ‘Modern Rustic’ trend is an easy one to emulate. You can take small parts of the trend and add it to your home- colour, materials or simplicity. Or you embrace the trend completely, and have an overhaul. Furthermore, it is a trend that fits in both modern and rustic style homes. It is a timeless trend.
