How To Start Your Day Right
Waking up right can settle you in for a good day. Having a good nights sleep is important too, but when we start our day right it sets the tone for the whole day. We have asked how you prefer to spend your mornings and had some wonderful answers, which has got us thinking about ways to start the day in a positive way. Here are a few of our suggestions, and we would love to hear more of yours:
Comfortable bed, comfortable morning
Waking up in a space you love and a bed you are comfortable in increases positive feelings the moment you wake up (as well as increasing chances that you had a good nights sleep).
There are some beautiful bedlinen sets available. One brand we have recently discovered is Nour Luxury, a British brand with a beautiful range of cotton bed sets. All the cotton sheets by this gorgeous brand are made Fair Trade, meaning you can sleep easy knowing the people who have made them were treated fairly.
And if you are prone to getting cold toes, our wool blankets are all made in the UK and Ireland by small family businesses.
With Or Without Milk
After around eight hours with little or limited fluids, the body needs to rehydrate in the morning. Lemon and water is a popular (and healthy) way to start the day. It refreshes and it tastes lovely. But if, like us, you need caffeine to make it through the first hour of the day there are some delicious options.
Coromandel Coast Coffee is a wonderful online coffee brand that sells sustainably sourced coffee from India. With a wonderful range to try, and a great way to start your day.
If you are more of a Tea drinker, there are a variety of teas available. Avantea, a Yorkshire based brand we stock, has a beautiful range of teas on offer, whether you want caffeine or not. If you want decaf and refreshing, try their Focus tea. A expertly blended mix of herbs including lemongrass, spearmint and Gingko. Or for a more mellow, caffeinated start to the day, we adore the Cream of Earl Grey.
Breakfast
‘The first meal of the day is the most important’. Whether you believe this or not, breakfast is an important way to increase energy and brain processes after a nights ‘fast’
To add something a little bit different to your breakfast if you are in a rush, there are some companies making breakfast a little more interesting. Qnola have created a range of toppings and granolas, so you can start your day with food which is both healthy and delicious. You can even get a sample selection for £7.00 if you want to trial their toppings.
Exercise
Do exercise when you wake up? Seven A.M. yoga is wonderful idea that we haven’t managed to put into practise yet. But if you do have the time and the energy Yoga is a great way to re-energise.
Exercise can increase brain function, as well as stretching out muscles. If you don’t have time to go to your gym or do an hours yoga it is still a good idea to stretch when you get up. Releasing tension and relaxing your muscles. The Child’s Pose, is a gentle way to start the day. Five minutes and you will be amazed at how much this simple pose can revive you.
