G&T anyone? | For the Love of Gin
Last month we stumbled across a rather wonderful craft gin … Tea flavoured!
Based in Yorkshire, this company’s gin was so lovely we have decided to share it with you, incase you haven’t heard of it before. One of the first things that caught our attention with this gin was the flavours…they make a lavender addition and a tea addition, two of our favourite things!
How it began
We love the modern beginnings of this company, which started with a Facebook group that went viral…Karl Mason sent his wife a message on Facebook one Friday requesting a G&T when he got home from work. This simple comment led to friends posting pictures of them having G&T’s, so he created a group to share the pictures.
The group went a little viral, and within 12 months he had 10,000 followers. It wasn’t long before gin companies started knocking on his door with free samples to promote to his audience.
This led to Karl trying the majority of gins available and coming to the conclusion too many of the newly launched gins tasted the same – ‘Could I do better and create a new gin that really is different?’ he thought. He took that thought and set about on the 2nd part of this great journey, which has included national & regional TV, radio & press coverage, as well as a showcase at the British ambassador’s Paris residence.
And Now
The Masons Yorkshire Gin team is made up of Karl and Cathy Mason at the helm as Directors with a growing number of staff. “We have staff in our distillery making the gin (and Vodka) bottling, labelling, dispatching it to fulfil all orders far and wide; an office staff who crunch the numbers; promote through social media; organise attendance at shows, festivals, trade events and Brand Ambassadors who are on the road selling and running staff training, gin tastings etc.”
A lot of love has gone into this company, not least a love of gin. Karl, Cathy and the team have even come up with some fantastic ways of serving their gin.
Recipe Ideas
They advocate trying their original gin with Fevertree tonic water, pink grapefruit peal, ice and cracked black pepper.
Or you could try their Tea gin with Franklin and Sons Lemon Tonic, ice and lemon peel.
Or their Lavender addition gin with Fentimans Herbal Tonic, ice and a sprig of rosemary… These are all options that we plan on trying, though these beautiful gins are also great in a cool glass with your favourite tonic water and a little bit of ice.
We think a lot of testing goes on… (and we may be doing some testing ourselves) We asked them where there idea for Tea flavoured gin came from, “ The Tea edition was influenced by the phrase – G&T so we thought let’s experiment and make a G & Tea…which of course had to be tea made in Yorkshire!” We are looking forward to following this friendly, innovative team and seeing what they come up with yet.
Masons Yorkshire Gin is a rather wonderful example of not knowing when a new adventure is about to begin, whether it is with a request for a G&T or a sip of tea flavoured gin…
Please drink responsibly.
