You are beautiful hanging heart decoration with quote – Home of Juniper

2018. New Year. Time to take stock. Remember to congratulate yourself for the good you did in 2017 (you did good, you know you did). And start considering what you want to achieve in the year to come. Whether it is a new job, a new hobby, a healthier diet or making sure you have more ‘me time’. There can be a lot of pressure this time of year. Most New Year’s Resolutions don’t make it to the end of January. So this year make sure your goals are something you look forward too, something achievable that will add something positive to your life. Something that you want to do, not just something you think you should do. And remember, if it scares and excites you in equal measure, it is probably worth looking into.

Christmas Traditions – Part One

felt christmas stocking

I love Christmas! When you are small it is all about the magic of Santa, flying reindeer, parents secretive whispering and packages under the Christmas tree. As I have gotten older I still find Christmas magical. The scent of pine, feeding the christmas cake, watching Christmas films (Love Actually, at least once!).. the list goes on. But, there are a few new things that I love about the festive season. One of my new favourite things about Christmas is finding out what other people do. What traditions they have and follow each year, or reminisce about. We asked a few people their favourite Christmas traditions. All people we asked have worked with us in some form over the last year. Here are a few of their Christmas traditions: Read more

Gloves are synonymous with British Autumn and Winter. There is something cosy about pulling on your favourite gloves. What made us fall a little in love with the gorgeous Aura Que gloves we stock stock at Home of Juniper is the fact that – as well as being stylish and cosy – they are also Fair Trade. We managed to catch designer and business owner Laura, and ask her some questions about her wonderful brand. Read more

Grasmere Gingerbread

Recently I got very excited when I got a box through the post. In the box was a lovely selection from Grasmere Gingerbread. Grasmere gingerbread reminds me of summer holidays as a child. Of a queuing down the street, waiting for your turn to go into a warm, beautifully scented old bakery. What you are met with (as well as the scrumptious scent) are rows of gingerbread. And the smiling faces of the people making and selling it. It is not just tourists who queue for this sweet treat, but locals too and sometimes celebrities. Grasmere gingerbread is unique. It is hard to find the words to describe it, so we asked the lovely people of Grasmere Gingerbread to tell us about it and why it is so special. Read more

Ode to Autumn

My Ode to Autumn is less of an ode, and more of a swift rambling about some of my favourite things you can see on a woodland walk at this time of year. It is a time of year that could be depressing- the days get shorter, the nights get longer and the leaves turn brown – but it is beautiful. Autumn is all about colour, texture, feel and change. The air gets colder, the colours change, leaves become crispy, even the light in the sky gets more depth. It is a wonderful month. A transitional month. Where the green of hedgerows is mottled with browns, reds and purples. Read more

We at Home of Juniper believe the story behind things bought as gifts or for your home are important. The people who make them, or the way they are made. So we thought we would let you know about some of our newest pieces and the stories behind them.
