Description
Squirrel Tagua Necklace – Handmade and Fair Trade
A wonderful, oversized squirrel necklace, something a little bit different, a great talking point and a lovely gift.
A charming black and white panda, skillfully hand carved from a tagua nut. Tagua is a nut from a type of palm that grows in the South American jungle. Often known as vegetable ivory, a sustainable and environmentally sound alternative to animal ivory.
Provenance: Handmade in Sosote, Ecuador; by Carlos, Ronald and their friends. A nut is selected that is as close to the desired finished shape as possible. A variety of sanding processes and polishes to achieve a smooth surface and form of the badger. Ethical jewellery, handmade by Carlos in Sosote, Ecuador.
Dimensions: Approx chain length 90cm. Squirrel 4.5cm x 2cm (he is handmade, so this is approximate.)
Care: Tagua is a natural, organic material and the undyed products may darken slightly over time, this is normal. When tagua jewellery dulls, buff it up with a soft white cotton cloth. Although tagua is a fairly hardwearing material, please be aware that if you drop it onto or knock it against a hard surface it could chip. Never immerse your tagua jewellery in water as this can cause it to crack.
