Self-Care Challenge

Looking around me at the people I love recently I was struck by how much time they put into other people and forget ( or feel like they don’t have time) to give themselves the same energy they give to others.

There can be something self-indulgent sounding about the term Self-Care. A current hit word. But it isn’t about selfishness it is about self-preservation. Taking a moment to yourself and not worrying about the dishes, work, the school run, or anything or anyone else you are worrying about. It is about taking time – 5 minutes or a whole hour- to concentrate on yourself. No TV, no social media, just you in a moment.

We challenged a couple of mum’s to do this challenge. Just 5 minutes a day when they concentrate on themselves. We gave them freedom of how they completed the tasks. So while Laura Tea & Biscuits x has now completed her task, Rebecca at Sparkle Nest has yet to begin. We will be looking at how they got on with their tasks in the next post. Or you can take a look at their Instagram pages to see how they got along or are getting on.

In the meantime, here are a couple of ways to take on the self care challenge yourself:

BODY

This can be massage, pilates, or just a long hot bubble bath (I say just… this is my personal favourite – usually with wine, a candle and a book.) It can be about having your eyebrows neat and your legs shaved. Or it can be about deep conditioning your hair. How you feel in your body and how you feel you look are both important. You look gorgeous by the way!

MIND

Meditation. If (like me) you find it hard to meditate, it is best to find something to concentrate on. For our challenge we sent Laura and Rebecca a candle each, so they could concentrate on the flame while enjoying the beautiful aroma.

SOUL

In my opinion what revives your soul is the most personal (and therefore hardest) piece of self-care. It could be a book you love, spending time with people you love, spending time in your garden or listening to a certain piece of music.

Whatever it is that gives you a reboot, take five…. at least five minutes a day to yourself.

And we would love to hear from you about how you like to spend five minutes to yourself.

P.S. We have also come up with a range of gift boxes for Mother’s Day to help with your own or someone you love self care challenge (some are out now, some will be making their way onto the online store next week).
