Bumblebees

If you have followed us for a while, you will know, we love bees! Honey, bumble and solitary. We have now been supporting, and with your help raising money for, the Bumblebee Conservation Trust for over three years. With at least 10% from our bee products going to charity.

The Unbearable Lightness of Bees

There are a few reasons we support this charity. Firstly, I have genuinely loved bees from as far back as I remember. I remember my grandfather telling me about his love of bees too.

Secondly, bees of all types are important for the planet. As part of the ecosystem and pollinating. The bee population is declining which could have a devastating effect on nature and the world. As well as being the base support for nature, they are important for farming. In 2015 it was estimated bees were contributed about £650million to the UK economy. And millions are spent each year on hiring and buying beehives to pollinate farmland.

What are BBCT Doing with their Donations?

The Bumblebee Conservation Trust have been making great use of the donations 2019 and 2020. They use the money they raise to help with the education about and research into bumblebees in the UK. A few things they have done include advising on land management to support people and bees. The Bumblebee Education Experience began in 2018, helping to educate children about bees and why they are important. This gives the next generation the knowledge to also help bees.

The charity are also part of Rethink Nature, a partnership of science conservation organisations. And as part of the Back from the Brink project are working to save the carder bee from extinction. To find out more about what the BBCT have and are doing visit their website.
